Champassak to plant second rice on 9,000 ha

(KPL) The Plantation Division, Agriculture and Forestry Service of Champassak province, said that the province planned to grow rice on 9,000 ha with an expected yield of 5.5 per ha this dry season.
Agriculture officials of the province promoted local farmers to apply new techniques improving their production especially the employment of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method in which single sapling plantation is promoted to ensure highly yielding rice production.
So far this dry season farmers in the province have just planted rice on only 558 ha, equivalent to 6 per cent of the annual plan set by the province.
Champassak expects that its rice plantation in this dry season would be complete early next month.
Other 12,100 ha of land is being planted with various kinds of cash crops such as peanuts, corns, taros, watermelons and vegetables.
