HEALTH MINISTER HOPES AID FOR PALESTINE BETTER IN CASH

Jakarta, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said that Indonesian assistance to Palestine would be better in cash, not in other forms, as requested by Egypt which shares its border with the Gaza Strip.

The minister told journalists here on Friday that Egypt wished the goods to be bought there, then sent to the border with Palestine.
On January 4, Palestinian Health Minister dr Fathi Abu Moughli had officially received the Indonesian Government's assistance consisting of two tons of medical supplies worth Rp300 million and Rp 2 billion in cash, to help Palestinians injured in the Israeli military attacks.
The humanitarian assistance was submitted by dr Rustam S Pakaya, Head of the Indonesian Health Ministry's Crisis Center, and Aidil Chandra Salim, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry's Middle East Director.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had earlier stated that Indonesia was committed to providing an assistance of one million US dollars and medicines to help the Palestinians injured in the Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
Indonesia has sent an advance humanitarian team which arrived in Cairo on Monday (Jan 5) at 05:30 local time consisting of the head of the Crisis Control Center of the Health Ministry, Dr Rustam S Pakaya, MPH, the director of Middle East affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Aidil Chandra Salim, Dr Lucky Tjahjono of the Crisis Control Center, Dr Joserizal Jurnalis SpOT of MER-C, Muhammad Mursalim of MER-C, Dr Agus Kooshartono and Dr Basuki Supartono of the Indonesian Red Crescent (BSMI) and Arif Rahman of Muhammadiyah.
In addition, the health minister said that so far Indonesian assistance has reached 2.1 billion rupiah consisting of 700 million rupiah from the government, 900 million rupiah from MER-C organization and another 500 million rupiah from the Indonesian Red Crescent.
Siti Fadilah Supari added that the Health Ministry was now raising funds from the Indonesian people for the Palestinians injured in the Israeli military attacks
