Kazakhstan’s doctors study international technology
Karaganda, 10 January 2008, (Khabar) - Kazakhstan’s medicine should fall in line with international standards since this task was set at the National Medical Holding resulting in a course of study in modern technology for local doctors. Recently, specialists in Astana installed insulin pumps in three children suffering from diabetes. Today, there are over 1 thousand insulin-dependent children in Kazakhstan. The new method has been in use in the world for 10 years now but used in Kazakhstan only for the first time.
Gulnar Sadybekova, endocrinologist, Centre for Maternity and Childhood:
- An insulin pump is a high technology device which allows precise doses of insulin to be injected every second throughout the day.
There is still no cure for diabetes, but there is a device which significantly increases the quality of life of such people and prevents any complications. The insulin pump is connected to the body with the help of small silicon tubes which carry insulin while a special sensor controls all changes. It is very comfortable and mobile so children sometimes compare it to a mobile phone. Now, the National Medical Holding is planning to teach the new technology to all endocrinologists. Later on, all hospital and out patient clinic nurses will have to be able to use the new system.
