AZERBAIJAN SUPPLIES GAS TO GEORGIA AND TURKEY FROM STAGE 1 OF SHAH DENIZ FIELD DEVELOPMENT

Baku, January 10 (AzerTAc) Azerbaijan supplies gas to Georgia and Turkey from the Stage 1 of the development of Shah Deniz field, but the country also intends to export gas to Greece, said Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev.

Aliyev noted the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz field development would provide his
country with opportunities to produce 14 billion cubic meters of gas, of which,
according to him, 3 billion cubic meters will be used for Azerbaijan`s domestic
demand, while 11 billion cubic meters will be exported.
According to the minister, the new source will give the country opportunities to
meet needs of Turkey and Greece, which already made relevant proposals to
Azerbaijan.
Commenting on the Nabucco project, Natig Aliyev called it a “complicated issue”,
saying there is a number of political, economic and financial obstacles that need to
be solved.
The Minister also added that Azerbaijan`s gas was insufficient for the realization
of the Nabucco, and that there is a need for Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
