KING OPENS CONFERENCE OF ISLAMIC CHARITY COUNCIL
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysian King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, Tuesday opened the national conference of the Malaysia Islamic Charity Council (MAIM) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.
The one-day conference, carrying the theme "Bersatu Membela Islam"
(Upholding Islam Together), is organised by the Islamic Dakwah Foundation of
Malaysia (Yadim) and has drawn about 3,000 participants from Islamic
non-governmental organisations (NGOs) nationwide.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Yadim
president Mohd Nakhaie Ahmad were also present at the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Nakhaie, who is also chairman of MAIM, said Islamic NGOs
should always reflect justice and maturity in their actions, not only with
regard to Muslims but mankind as a whole.
He said the Muslim community would not be able to depend entirely on
political parties and needed the strength of bodies such as Islamic NGOs in
determining the overall future of the people.
