TWU CONTRIBUTES TO GAZA FUND

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (BERNAMA) -- The 12,000-strong Malaysia's Transport Workers Union (TWU) Tuesday directed its members to contribute a ringgit each towards the Palestine Fund.

"We have sent directives to all our branches to make the collection which
would be used to provide food, clothing, medicine and shelter to the war
victims," said general secretary Zainal Rampak.

In a statement to Bernama, he suggested that all trade unions and workers in
the country emulate the move by TWU.

"If each worker can contribute one ringgit, we can easily collect about 10
million ringgit as there are now 10 million workers in the country," he said.

Zainal also called on the International Trade Union Confederation to direct
their affiliates to put pressure on Israel and United States to stop the
ruthless murder of innocent people in Gaza.
