M'SIA WILL CONVEY RESOLUTIONS ON ISRAEL TO US CONGRESS, EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

BENTONG (Malaysia), Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will convey the 10 resolutions
passed at Monday's special Parliament sitting on Israel's atrocities in Gaza to
the United States Congress and parliaments of Britain and the European Union,
said Prime Minster Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"The resolutions will also be conveyed to United Nations (UN)
secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon and the UN's General Assembly (UNGA) president to
demand that UN's Security Council make a decision to enforce resolutions it has
taken on the Palestinian conflict," he told reporters after attending a briefing
on the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) at the Bentong Land and District Office
here Tuesday.

Bentong is both a town and a district in east coast Pahang, Malaysia.

He said Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries and members of
the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) would also be informed of the resolutions adopted
by Malaysia.

Abdullah said this when elaborating on the special sitting of Parliament
held to discuss the Zionist regime's latest atrocities on the inhabitants of
besieged Gaza.

Among others the resolutions call for UNGA to immediately set up an
International Crimes Tribunal to investigate and prosecute Israelis involved in
atrocities against Palestinians for war crimes.

Israel's invasion of Gaza launched on Dec 27 to date has claimed over 900
Palestinian lives, mostly civilians including women and children.

Abdullah said Malaysia would insist on a UNGA meeting to be convened if
there was no positive response over the resolutions.

He also praised Mercy Malaysia for its humanitarian relief work to help the
people of Gaza and that the government was fully supporting it in the noble
effort.

In KUALA LUMPUR, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia Kamal
Malhotra said Malaysia needed to lobby and convince other parliaments in the
world to ensure the resolutions would gain greater support and be more
effective.

"The resolution would be more effective and influential in the international
community if Malaysia were able to lobby and convince other parliaments around
the world including the British and European Parliaments to agree on similar
resolutions.

"Once this has happened these resolutions should then be put through an
international parliamentary body which is credible and has an observer or
consultative station within the United Nations (UN)," Malhotra told Bernama in
in an email interview.

Malhotra's comments was supported by Human Rights Commissioner Dr
Denison Jayasooria who told Bernama in a phone interview that Malaysia must
mobilise and strengthen its partnership with OIC countries, Non-Aligned Movement
(NAM), Asean and other countries to garner support and force the US to play a
more decisive role in stopping Israel from committing crimes against humanity.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar said
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim should use his close ties with United
States leaders to influence the superpower to order Israel to stop its
atrocities in Gaza.

He said the issue was not a party matter but involved humanity which
required all quarters to act to stop the carnage taking place in the Palestinian
territory.

"It is good he supported the resolutions, this is important because he
understands Malaysians aspirations for the people of Palestine and that they
abhor Israel's atrocities on them. He (Anwar) should use his influence to get
the Americans to stop Israel's crimes in Gaza," he told reporters after
launching the national level Mawadah (an anti-drugs programme for women) here
Tuesday.
