AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL FLAG INSTALLED ON ANTARCTICA`S HIGHEST PEAK, MT. WINSON
Baku, January 14 (AzerTAc). The first expedition (Azerbaijan-Antarctica) headed by President of the Air and Extreme Sports Federation of Azerbaijan Huseyngulu Bagirovconquered the highest peak of Antarctica, Mt. WInson (5140 m). The expeditioninstalled Azerbaijan`s national flag and bronze plaque with the portrait of
nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev reading “I am proud to be Azerbaijani” on the front side and portrait of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the reverse side reading “Azerbaijan, go ahead with Ilham”.
Expedition left Baku on December 24 and started for the Antarctica from the Chilean base of Patriot Hills on December 30. On their way, members of the expedition did researches, carried out over 300 meteorological surveys and took up to 2 kilos of precious geological samples.
Currently, the expedition is moving towards the South Pole.
