TOUGH WIND CONDITIONS AWAIT GEOPARK REGATTA SAILORS
LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Teams competing in this year's KFC-Langkawi Geopark International Regatta which kicks off Thursday will be in for a tough time as wind speeds are reaching up to 24 knots at the competition venue in Kelibang, Kuah, in this northern island resort.
Malaysia Yachting Association (MYA) general manager Mohd Afendy Abdullah
said he hoped the wind conditions will last over the five days of the regatta.
"It will test the capabalities of the 200-odd saliors from the 16 teams that
will be taking part in this prestigious regatta," he told reporters at the
National Yachting Centre here Wednesday.
Five categories will be competed -- Optimis, Laser, 470, 420 and
Windsurfing.
Apart from Malaysia among the countries represented are Myanmar, Thailand,
Qatar, Syria, India, England, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
