POVERTY LEVEL DECLINED TO 13.2 PERCENT IN 2008, AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV
Baku, January 17 (AzerTAc). Poverty level in Azerbaijan declined to 13.2 percent in 2008, said President Ilham Aliyev Friday at a meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers to sum up socio-economic results of the last year. The President said “this points to the fact the population`s incomes are on the rise”.
“13.2 percent is a great achievement, especially taking into account that in 2003 the poverty level was 49 percent”.
“This once again shows that radical economic reforms in Azerbaijan are aimed both at strengthening the country`s economic potential and, first and foremost, at improving the populations living standards” said the President.
The Head of State also pointed to the fact that in 2008 the population`s incomes increased 36 percent.
