AZERBAIJANI GAS TO ENSURE IMPORTANT PART OF EUROPE`S CONSUMPTION

Baku, January 17 (AzerTAc). Hilmi Guler, minister of energy and natural resources of Turkey, speaking to CNN Turkey TV said his country has sent text of intergovernmental agreement on Nabucco Project to the consortium members. He, at the same time, noted that despite this Project, the European countries and also the official Turkey have great hope for natural gas of Russia.
Confirming statement of the Turkish Minister, Consortium's managing director Reinhard Mitschek said the 31 bcm Azerbaijani natural gas to be exported from Azerbaijan to the European counties will make an important part of the European gas need. Nevertheless, it is impossible to lift the European countries` dependence on Russia’s natural gas. Currently it makes 500 bcm. At his words, though Nabucco will ensure 8 percent of the gas need, the Project is of great importance form the point of view of diversification.
Mr. Reinhard Mitschek said the forthcoming 26 January meeting will once again stress importance of political support for this Project. The meeting will be attended by representatives of European Commission and European Investment Bank.
