INDONESIAN SHUTTLER SIMON WITHDRAWS FROM KOREA OPEN SEMIFINALS

Jakarta, Jan 17 (ANTARA) - Simon Santoso, the only Indonesian single shuttler who had advanced to the semifinals of the Super Series Korea Open, had to withdraw from the competition because he was indisposed.

The eighth seeded Indonesian shuttler was to scheduled to challenge Peter Gade of Denmark in the semifinals at the Olympic Gymnasium of Seoul on Saturday. But because of his unfavorable health condition, he decided not to show up, thus paving the way for Peter Gade to be a "walkout" winner.

"This morning he didn't feel well and became weak and therefore he could not play ," Simon's manager, Yacob Rusdianto, said when contacted from Jakarta on Saturday.
Yacob who is also secretary general of the Indonesian Badminton Association further said that the Indonesian team should immediately report Simon's withdrawal, as the match would be covered by local television.

Simon was the only Indonesian shuttler who could still show up in the USD300,000 prized badminton tournament this year after his compatriots were also overpowered in the qualification rounds.
