Dubai Cares 'Children of Gaza' attracts over 3,000 volunteers during weekend
Dubai – Jan 18, 2009 (WAM) Over 3,000 volunteers joined Dubai Cares over the weekend to support the charitable establishment's Children of Gaza campaign, currently being held at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Scheduled to end on Monday, 19 January, 2009, the campaign invites volunteers to prepare 50,000 hygiene and school kits which will be delivered to the children in the Gaza Strip following a cease-fire in the current war.
H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, Chairperson of the Dubai Cares Board of Directors, said: "Because of the tremendous outpouring of support from the community, we will meet our goal of preparing 50,000 kits ahead of schedule. This magnificent demonstration of good will and the overwhelming sympathy for the suffering of the children of Gaza is truly a moving experience. " Al Hashimy added: "Dubai Industrial City pledged its support to the campaign and provided Dubai Cares with warehouses to store the packaged hygiene and school kits. Similar in-kind donations were made by DIFC, Jumeirah, Spinney's, Dulsco and Aswaaq has reinforced the community's eagerness to help and we are grateful to have received their generous support." The wives of more than 20 Consul Generals in Dubai - including Yemen, Egypt, New Zealand, Russia, Indonesia and Korea - also lent their support to the campaign, joining the local community in a show of solidarity with the children of Gaza.
Dubai Cares is the world's largest charitable establishment solely devoted to improving primary education for underprivileged children. Its emergency interventions - which to date include interventions in Chad, Myanmar and Ethiopia - stems from its philosophy that guaranteeing the continuity of children's education is as important as ensuring their physical well being. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
