New Sport Training Centre Opens

(KPL) The Sports Training Centre of Laos officially opened in Vientiane on Sunday to be used for preparing athletes for upcoming 25th SEA Games, hosted in this year’s end.
The opening ceremony was attended by Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the 25th S EA Games Organising Committee Somsavat Lengsavad, President of the Lao National Sports Committee (LNSC) and Lao National Olympic Committee Dr Phouthong Seng-akhom, President of Vietnamese Sports and Tourism and Olympic Committee Nguyen Danh Thai and relevant officials from Laos and Vietnam were present at the event.
Mr Nguyen Danh Thai officially handed over the centre to Dr Phouthong Seng-akhom after it was constructed by Vietnamese construction companies.
Mr. Somsavat representing the Lao government and people expressed thanks to the government and people of Vietnam for their assistance in building the facility.
He said the centre was a symbol of the special relations between the two countries and would be used by athletes from both nations.
Mr Nguyen said Vietnam was pleased to assist in providing a high standard training facility for athletes from both nations to use in their preparations for the SEA Games.
He expressed his confidence that Laos would host a successful event and athletes from both countries would represent their countries proudly.
The centre covers an area of 12 hectares and is located in Sikeuth village, Naxaithong district.
The construction of the centre began in January of last year with a financial grant of 35 billion kip (US$4 million) from the Vietnamese government.
It has been equipped with training facilities for boxing, muay, wrestling, and track and field. It also has accommodation for 250 athletes, coaches, and officials, a canteen and LNSC offices.
Muay, boxing, wushu, wrestling and track and field squads will train at the centre from next month on in preparation for the SEA Games.
