Thanaleng - Nongkhai railway run tested before official opening

(KPL) Officials of Thanaleng Railway Station of Laos, the State Railway of Thailand and the Nongkhai Railway Station, Thailand, jointly conducted a test run on the newly constructed railway between Thanaleng and Nongkhai on Saturday.
Mr. Prachack Manotham, Deputy Head of the State Railway of Thailand said, “The similar tests will be conducted on every weekend from now on to February, before the official opening on 5 March.”
It is expected that Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Mahidol will co-chair the official opening ceremony of the historic Laos-Thailand railway.
Mr. Prachack said, “We are setting schedule for the public service of the railway transport between Nongkai to Thanaleng to ease the travel of passengers from both countries.”
He said that passengers from Thailand are required to stop for 30 minutes to one hour for immigration checking by officials at the Nongkhai Railway Station before further their journey to the Thanaleng Railway Station.
Mr. Prachack said the railway linkage between Thanaleng-Nongkhai attracts much attention from the Thai people. “It is considered rather comfortable and cheaper than traveling by cars.”
The Lao Railway Authority has prepared buses shuttling between Thanaleng and Morning Market.
