MALAYSIA WILL HOST 16TH AMA CHAMPIONSHIP




KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has been picked to host the 16th
Asian Masters Athletics (AMA) Championship next year after Japan withdrew its
bid at the annual general meeting of the Asian Masters Associations in
Chiangmai, Thailand on Tuesday.

Malaysian Masters Athletics Association (MMAA) secretary S.Sivapragasam said
the choice of Malaysia as host was an honour for the country and that its bid
had the blessings of the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The AMA championship which was open to Asian athletes over 35 years-old
would be held at National Stadium , Bukit Jalil, he told Bernama here Tuesday.

At the 15th AMA championship in Chiangmai from Jan 11-17, the Malaysian
contingent of veteran athletes came in fifth in the medals tally.

Malaysia who were represented by 136 athletes returned with 23 gold, 22
silver and 13 bronze medals. Sri Lanka emerged champions followed by Thailand,
Japan and India.
