Ringgit Slumps To Lowest In Over 9 Months
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The ringgit declined to its lowest in more than nine months at Thursday's close, taking stock of Donald Trump's victory in Tuesday's US presidential election, a dealer said.
At 6 pm, the local unit was traded at 4.2700/2790 against the greenback from 4.2240/2300 on Wednesday.
The dealer said the local note fell to its lowest as the government bond prices lost ground.
He said the sentiment towards the Asian currencies, including the ringgit remained bearish and was unlikely to recover soon following Donald Trump's victory in Tuesday's US presidential election.
Republican's Donald Trump clinched victory over Democrat's Hillary Clinton after long, bitter and divisive election campaign to become the 45th US president.
The local note declined against the Singapore dollar to 3.0409/0495 from 3.0345/0392 and versus the British pound, it fell to 5.2905/2030 from 5.2340/2427 Wednesday.
Vis-a-vis the yen, the ringgit rose to 4.0207/0307 from 4.0808/0877 and against the euro it went up to 4.6505/6624 from 4.6679/6754.
