M'SIAN FIRMS INVOLVED IN 103 PROJECTS OVERSEAS
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysian companies are currently implementing 103 projects worth RM70.5 billion (US$1=RM3.62) overseas, Works Minister Ir Mohd Zin Mohamed said Friday.
They are part of the 464 projects secured abroad worth RM97.6 billion, he
said.
Two companies have undertaken two projects in Syria -- to upgrade the
Damsyik International Airport and to build an effluence treatment system and
water treatment plant, he said.
Besides Syria, Egypt has also invited Malaysian investors to invest in the
property sector, particularly housing, he said at the "Together with Deputy
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak" event.
Mohd Zin said several big Malaysian companies have also penetrated the
Qatari market. Gamuda Bhd, a public-listed company, has been awarded the RM1.9
billion Doha International Airport project.
Gamuda is the main contractor along with Sinohydro and WCT
Engineering Berhad.
It entails the construction of two runways, one measuring 4.8km and the
other 4.2km, a tunnel, retention pond, lighting system and two cargo complexes,
which are currently 70 per cent completed.
The airport is slated to open late next year.
Gamuda is also building the RM760 million Dukhan Highway in Qatar. The 42km
highway is 95 percent completed, he added.
