CATHAY PACIFIC REDUCES PASSENGER FUEL SURCHARGE

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Cathay Pacific Airways Friday announced a reduction in its fuel surcharge following an adjustment to levels approved by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (CAD).

The adjustment represents reductions of about 44 percent from the current
surcharges of HK$108 for short-haul and HK$499 for long-haul services, the
airline said in a statement Friday.

The new surcharges of HK$61 for short-haul services in North and South East
Asia and HK$280 for long-haul services, would apply from Feb 1 until March 31
this year.

Most major airlines currently levy a fuel surcharge of up to more than US$80
per short-haul sector, while surcharges of between US$100 and US$200 for
long-haul flights are not uncommon, it said.
