Laos Beat Brunei 3-2 To Win Third Spot In AFC Solidarity Cup

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Laos edged Brunei 3-2 in a third place play-off match in the AFC Solidarity Cup Malaysia 2016 at the Sarawak Stadium in Kuching of east Malaysian state Sarawak, here Monday night. Laos moved into the lead as early as the fifth minute through Keovienpheth Lithedeth but Brunei equalised in the 22th minute when Mohammad Shah Razen Said beat Laos goalkeeper Vieng Akhom Vilavong with a low shot. In the second half Laos once again took the lead in the 52nd minute when Bounlien Bounpachack sent a beautiful cross for Sitthideth Khhanthhavong to coolly blast past Brunei custodian Mohhammad Tarmizi Johari. However, Brunei again fought back to equalise through Mohammad Tarmizi but Xaisongkham Champathong had the last say to struck the winning goal for Laos in the 81st minute. Meanwhile, 2016 South Asian Games champion Nepal will square off against Macau in the final on Tuesday night at the Sarawak Stadium. Laos lost to Nepal in a penalty shootout on Saturday after a thrilling 120 minutes which ended in a 2-2 draw. Nepal won the shootout 3-0 while Brunei also missed out on the final after a penalty shootout against Macau. --BERNAMA
