Minister Anifah To Attend OIC Emergency Meeting In Mekah

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman is to lead a Malaysian delegation to the Emergency Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Mekah on Thursday. A Wisma Putra (Malaysia's Foreign Ministry) statement said on Wednesday the meeting would discuss the missile attacks launched by the Houthis of Yemen against Saudi Arabia on Oct 9 and 27. The meeting will also formally endorse the appointment of Dr Yusuf Ahmed Al-Othaimeen as the new OIC secretary-general. Iyad Ameen Madani resigned as the secretary-general on Oct 31 for health reasons. "Malaysia's participation in the meeting proves the spirit of togetherness with Saudi Arabia following the missile attacks by the Houthis of Yemen. "Malaysia hopes that the ongoing conflict in the region will be resolved peacefully," said the Wisma Putra statement. It also said that Malaysia would provide support to and was prepared to work closely with the new secretary-general in realising the OIC objectives and aspirations towards the well-being of Muslims. --BERNAMA
