Angkasa's MOSTI Track Autism Wins Prize At GNSS.Asia Challenge 2016

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Fresh from winning a special prize in Europe last month, the MOSTI Track Autism has won again. This time, it bagged the third prize in the GNSS.asia Challenge Competition 2016 held in Manila on Tuesday. (MOSTI is the acronym for Malaysia's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation) In a statement Wednesday, the National Space Agency (Angkasa) said the MOSTI Track Autism, which is also known as Autism Trigger, Tracking and Trac (ATTracT), was a system developed under the MOSTI Social Innovation using satellite navigation technology and integrated with mobile communications technology. "Through this system, the child wears a satellite tracking device GPS navigation shaped like a wrist-watch and parents can track the location of the child’s position at all times using a smartphone app. "Through the application, parents can determine the area of virtual zones and the period of time for certain daily activities for children afflicted with autism," it said. It added that a notification via short message service (SMS) would be sent to the parents if the child was not located within the virtual zone. The MOSTI Track Autism can minimise the risk of accidents to the children with autism and also reduce the parents’ stress and anxiety, said the statement. Themed 'Providing the Solutions using Multi-GNSS and Other Space Applications in the Asia Pacific Region', the competition saw participation from various agencies involved in satellite navigation applications from around the world. Prizes were presented during the 8th Conference on Multi-GNSS Asia held in Manila. Last month, the MOSTI Track Autism bagged the BELS Special Prize at the 2016 European Satellite Navigation Application Competition. The competition - organised by the European Commission, European Space Agency and European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency - was held at Circulo De Bellas Artes de Madrid, Spain on Oct 25. --BERNAMA
