DELHI DIALOGUE IS GOOD STARTING POINT FOR ASEAN

NEW DELHI, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The First Delhi Dialogue which ended here on Thursday, was a good starting point for Asean countries, including Malaysia, to enhance economic stability by tapping into opportunities available in India.

The Malaysian High Commissioner to India, Tan Seng Sung said Malaysia
stood a better chance of penetrating India given its current trading
partnership.

"I am also echoing the statement by Asean secretary-general Dr Surin
Pitsuwan that Asean and India are going through a very interesting period.

"The international community is looking at India and China to
contribute towards bringing about a change in the economic situation and hence
Malaysia should not miss this opportunity," he told Bernama here.

The two-day First Delhi Dialogue, was aimed of having a regular forum to
discuss and promote greater engagement amid the challenges facing a region that
includes South Asia and Asean.

Major investment areas by Malaysian companies in India were road
construction,software production, electrical apparatus for medical use, car
radio cassette players, radio paging system, telephone equipment and heat
resistance latex rubber thread.

Tan noted that the Dehli Dialogue organised by the Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and India's Ministry of External
Affairs was a way forward for Malaysia to further the economic bilateral ties
between both countries.
