Strong Earthquake Strikes Off Japan

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- A strong earthquake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, struck the east coast of Honshu island in Japan at 4.59am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department. It said in a statement that the epicentre of the earthquake was 45km northeast of Iwaki, Japan, and 4,189km northeast of Kudat, Sabah. Japanese authorities have issued a tsunami warning for Japan's Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures. The statement said Malaysia would be unaffected by any tsunami. -- BERNAMA
