ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE TO HIGHEST LEVEL, KING TELLS SOLDIERS
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The military might of a country does not rest only on its firepower but also on the effectiveness of its officers in executing their duties, the King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, said Saturday.
He said that as such, members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) should
equip themselves with the highest level of education to enable them serve the
country meaningfully.
"To keep pace with the country's fast development, organisations like the
armed forces, which is undergoing modernisation, should be aware of the
importance of acquiring knowledge and wisdom.
"The wisdom garnered in handling weapons and military systems could thwart
undesirable foreign elements," he said at the 72nd royal commissioning parade of
short service commissioned cadet officers at the Army College in Sungai Besi
here.
Tuanku Mizan said he hoped that members of the armed forces would enhance
their knowledge in an effort to strengthen the country's defence and would
always be in a state of readiness in the defence of the country.
"I am confident of the effectiveness of the Army College training in
moulding armed forces members to be dynamic in their thinking so as to be able
to serve with agility and discipline," he said.
Senior non-commissioned officer Mhd (rpt) Mhd Husni Saberi, 20, was
accorded the 72nd honorary short service commission sword while cadet sergeant
Abdul Kadir Kunyi Mohammad, 27, was declared the best student in academic
studies and junior non-commissioned officer Muda Muhammad Farhan Abd Razak, 24,
the best student in military skills.
