Jakim To Hold Special Prayers Friday For Rohingyas
PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) is to hold 'Qunut Nazilah' (special prayers) during the Friday prayers on Friday for the Rohingya community allegedly facing torture in Myanmar.
Its director-general, Othman Mustapha, said Wednesday Qunut Nazilah would be held at all the main Jakim mosques, namely the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur and the Putra Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque here, as well as all the mosques and surau (prayer houses) under the jurisdiction of the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department.
He also said that Jakim sought the cooperation of all mosques throughout the country to also hold the prayers.
Othman said Jakim viewed with concern the atrocities committed against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
"It is a form of violation of human rights and humiliation of the Muslim minority in Myanmar," he said in a statement.
Othman said Jakim called on all quarters to pray for the speedy resolution of the problem faced by the Rohingyas to enable them to return to normal life soon.
