Insult To Islam Can Cause Instabilty - Malaysia's Pas Party President

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Non-Muslim Members of Parliament (MPs) have been reminded not to insult Islam to the extent of causing social and political instability as occurred in Jakarta recently. Malaysia's Islamist political party Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) president Abdul Hadi Awang, who is also the MP of Marang, said non-Muslim MPs should not interfere in matters related to Islam and Muslims as Islamic affairs are placed under purview of the Malay rulers and the Islamic authorities. "These affairs are none of their (non-Muslims) concern. I'm warning them not to do what the Governor of Jakarta Basuki Ahok Tjahaja Purnama did," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here Thursday. It was reported that Ahok, a non-Muslim, had been badly criticised for touching on matters related to Islam. Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi said PAS would organise a massive assembly to garner public support on the motion for his Private Member's Bill to amend Act 355, which he tabled at the Dewan Rakyat (Lower House of Parliament) sitting Thursday. He said a meeting with Muslim non-governmental organisations would be convened to explain the objective of the assembly prior to the event. "The assembly will bring the voices of Muslims and non-Muslims supporting the bill," he said, adding that the date for the assembly had yet to be finalised. -- BERNAMA
