Youths Must Be Responsible When Using Social Media - Malaysia's Deputy Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Social media users, especially the young must cultivate a sense of responsibility when using the medium, says Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Jailani Johari. Statistics show that about 20.1 million internet users in Malaysia were below 30 years old and most of them were using various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Jailani said since the people prefer to obtain information over the social media, they should ensure that the information was authentic before forwarding. "They should always be cautious before spreading information as it will either have a positive or negaive impact," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation between the Special Affairs Department (JASA) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and a prize presentation for the 2016 Merdeka Instagram Contest, here Thursday. Also present were JASA director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Fuad Zarkashi and UniKL chief executive officer, Prof Datuk Mazliham Mohd Su'ud. Meanwhile Mohd Puad said the strategic partnership between JASA and UniKL was an initiative to foster positive values and develop self esteem among UniKL students.
