Malaysia Bag Second Gold Medal At Commonwealth Meet
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The national bowling squad clinched their second gold medal, in the mixed pairs event, at the 7th Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Johannesburg on Thursday.
In the event held at Northcliff Bowl in the South African city, the Malaysian team made up of Shalin Zulkifli, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Muhammad Nur Aiman Khairuddin and Timmy Tan dominated the six games from the very beginning.
They collected 5,602 pins overall to clinch Malaysia's second gold medal after Muhammad Nur Aiman bagged the first on Monday in the men's singles event.
The South African team took the silver after downing 5,014 pins overall while Wales fell 4,946 pins to settle for the bronze.
With this latest success, Malaysia are leading the standings in the competition with two gold, three silver and one bronze.
After four rounds of competition, Shalin is leading in the women's All-events with 5,296 pins overall followed by Siti Safiyah Amirah in second place while in the men's category, Muhammad Nur Aiman is in front with 5,800 pins and Timmy in second place with 5,602 pins.
However, the All-events does not offer any medals.
All four of them succeeded in being placed among the top 12 bowlers in the men and women's categories to compete in the Masters event.
The Masters event which involves 12 games takes place on Friday before the winners are determined by a step ladder final on Saturday.
Eleven nations are taking part in this seventh edition of the championship held for the first time in Africa. Each nation is represented by four participants, two men and two women.
