AFF Suzuki Cup: Vietnam Aim To Extend Winning Streak In Group B

YANGON, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Group B winner Vietnam seek to maintain their unbeaten records when they face winless team, Cambodia, in their final Group B match of the AFF Suzuki Cup at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Naypyitaw, on Saturday. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Vietnam head coach Nguyen Huu Thang said his charges were committed to score another victory despite having arrived at Naypyitaw from here, on Thursday. "At the moment, our players are concentrating on tomorrow's game. It will be good to win tomorrow to complete the group stage," he said. Nguyen also praised his Cambodian counterpart, Lee Tae Hoon, who managed to groom a few talented players in the tournament, such as Prak Mony Udom and Chan Vathanaka. "I expect them to challenge our players and make tomorrow's match an exciting one," he added. Lee, on the other hand, hoped that his young charges would gain a more invaluable experience when playing time against the 'Golden Stars' squad, which he regarded as one of the strongest teams in the Asean region. "Our players were always forced to face strong teams in the group stages, so we will just try our best," he said. "Even if we don't achieve the desired result, we must show that we have delivered an improved performance," added the South Korean coach who aimed to see his sides to at least get a point as a consolation prize after failing to do so in their two previous matches. For the record, Cambodia lost 2-3 to Malaysia in the group opening match on Nov 20 before going down 1-3 to joint host, Myanmar, three days later. Vietnam have already secured a place in the semi-finals after scoring second straight win in Group B by defeating Malaysia 1-0 on Wednesday. -- BERNAMA
