Malaysia Condemns Brutality Inflicted Upon People In Northern Rakhine, Myanmar

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia condemns the brutality inflicted upon the minority group in Northern Rakhine State, Myanmar, the Foreign Ministry said. In a statement Friday, the ministry said Malaysia took the stand to condemn the brutality, which had claimed the lives of innocent people and caused displacement of people in the Northern Rakhine, during the Cabinet meeting Friday. The statement said the ministry would summon the Myanmar Ambassador to Malaysia to convey to the Myanmar government about the Malaysia government's stand on the issue. "Malaysian Foreign Minister has also asked to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar in the near future," it said. Malaysia also called on all quarters involved to avoid any action that could worsen the situation. "We also urge the Myanmar government to take strong measures to address the issue of genocide allegedly occurred in the area," the statement added. -- BERNAMA
