Beware Of Myanmar Quick Counter Attacks
From Mazani Mohd Yusoff
YANGON, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Harimau Malaysia defence line-up should be wary of Myanmar's quick counter attacks when they play against each other in the last Group B match of the AFF Suzuki Cup at the Thuwunna Stadium Saturday.
National senior defender Mohd Rizal Mohd Ghazali said extra attention should be given to the host's frontliners, especially striker Aung Thu and midfielder Kaung Sat Naing, as they were capable of creating room for their teammates to score a goal.
"For me, their attacks are quite dangerous, especially from the midfield and that is what we (defenders) should be focusing on," he told reporters before attending the training session here Friday.
His view was shared by midfielder Mohd Fadhli Mohd Shas, who also admitted that they should really focus in controlling the quick movement of Myanmar strikers.
"Our defence line-up is quite good, but they should avoid making any mistakes at the very last minutes...Myanmar's strength is their quick counter attacks," said the Johor Darul Ta'zim II player.
Meanwhile, head coach Ong Kim Swee confirmed that left winger Mohd Syazwan Zainon and mid-defender Ronny Harun had yet to fully recover from their injuries and their absence could be covered by defenders Mohd Fadhli Mohd Shas and Khairul Helmi Johari, and wingers Muhammad Hadin Azman and Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak.
"We will leave it until tomorrow morning to see whether Ronny and Mohd Syazwan are fit enough to be fielded to play against Myanmar...if not, we still have several replacement players and I don't see any problem for the team," he said.
Malaysia and Myanmar had collected three points each after two matches, but Myanmar have the goal advantage, hence forcing Malaysia to score another win to advance to the semi finals.
