UAE expresses deep concern over the suffering of Palestinian women in Gaza

New York, Jan 25, 2009 (WAM) - The UAE expressed deep concerns over the suffering of Palestinian women and families in Gaza and called upon the international community to provide the necessary support and assistance to the Palestinian women and people.

The UAE called for speeding up the efforts to reach a comprehensive and permanent peaceful solution for the Palestinian question.

This came in the UAE statement delivered on Friday by UAE Minister of State Dr. Maitha Al Shamsi at the 2nd Ministerial Conference of Non Aligned Movement (NAM) on the Advancement of Women in Guatemala City.

The conference was attended by the ministers and representatives of 72 NAM member countries and 9 countries with observer status.

"The United Arab Emirates, being very keen on fulfilling its international and humanitarian commitments to assist the Palestinian people and lift their suffering, has taken important and effective initiatives to support the humanitarian efforts towards the reconstruction of what the Israeli aggression has destroyed in Gaza", she said.

The UAE, she added, continues support to regional efforts to advance education and health services and lift the suffering of the Palestinian women.
