Stop Discrediting Government Call To Malaysian Opposition
By Azeman Ariffin
JAKARTA, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysian opposition party leaders must cease inciting the people to hate the government as it is tantamount to betraying one's own country, said Malaysia's Ambassador to Indonesia Zahrain Mohamed Hashim.
He said inciting the people to hate the government had tarnished Malaysia's international reputation and brought losses to the country.
The opposition should provide the check and balance and not discredit the country abroad to the extent that it undermined foreign investment, he said to reporters here Wednesday.
Zahrain said the Malaysian opposition should learn from the political maturity in Indonesia where the opposition never discredited the country, both at home and abroad.
"I have seen the maturity of politicians in Indonesia. The opposition politicians can sit and discuss with the President and administrators how to resolve issues, including the recent mass demonstrations," he said.
Zahrain said the former Indonesian president was not aligned to the current leadership but he did not make any open criticism and did not interfere in government matters.
"If there is any criticism, it will only be voiced in a civilised manner without inciting the people to hate the leaders and government," he said.
Leaders of the opposition parties recently met President Jokowi to ensure stability of the government in the aftermath of recent demonstrations, he added.
