Thai Police Arrest Three Men On Suspicion Of Planning Attacks

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Thai police have detained three southern Thai men for allegedly planning to stage bomb attacks in Bangkok and the outskirts of the capital, said the country's police deputy chief Wednesday. According to Gen Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul, one of the men confessed to the charges while the rest maintained innocence. "The police charges against the men were for jointly possessing unauthorised explosives, secret society and criminal associations," he told the media when met at the Crime Suppression Division here Wednesday. The three men, aged 31, 19 and 22, are from the Raman district in Yala, and Srisakorn district in Narathiwat. They were detained by the Thai military in a security swoop earlier, before being handed over to the police. The police deputy chief, who earlier conducted investigations on the three suspects said the men planned to stage bomb attacks in Bangkok and Samut Prakan, located in outskirts of the capital between Oct 25-30. Srivara also said that one of the suspects confessed to involvement in southern Thai's violent incidents three years ago and last year. -- BERNAMA
