Abu Dhabi Municipality receives land for Sheikh Khalifa City in Cairo

Cairo, Jan 27, 2009 (WAM) - A delegation from Abu Dhabi Municipality has officially received a land from the Egyptian Housing ministry to build on it the Khalifa bin Zayed City.

The city will be constructed in the New Cairo suburb on a 2.2 million square meter area.

Attending the land transfer ceremony were Ahmed Ali Al Za’abi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt, Isa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Director of Infrastructure '&' Services at Abu Dhabi Municipality and Mohammed Damardash, Senior Assistant to the Egyptian Housing Minister.

Al Za’abi said the construction of Sheikh Khalifa City in the New Cairo reflects President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's deep affection for the leadership, government and people of Egypt.

"This project is an example of the deep-rooted ties between the two brotherly peoples, the foundation of which was laid by the wise leadership in the two countries," he added.

Isa Al Mazrouei said some of the project's housing units will be set aside for fresh graduates and newly-married couples against a symbolic value.

The project's first phase will be completed in three years. Emaar was contracted to help in developing and managing the project.

Al Damardash said the land, allocated by President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, will be used to build medium housing units.
