COUNCIL OF EUROPE GIVES PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO DEVELOPMENT OF CONTACTS WITH AZERBAIJAN

Strasbourg, 26 January (AzerTAc). Eight years ago, on January 25, 2001, in Strasbourg with participation of the great leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev the national flag of Azerbaijan has been lifted before the building of the Council of Europe. With acceptance of Azerbaijan in the Council of Europe its position in the
European structures has strengthened.
Special representative of the COE Secretary General in Azerbaijan Veronica Kotek stated that interest of some the international organizations, including СOЕ to Azerbaijan today has increased. Rapid development of Azerbaijan, its role in power safety of Europe are in the centre of attention of the world. The Council of Europe
gives particular attention to development of contacts with Azerbaijan.
Saying that relations between Azerbaijan and СOЕ develop in a positive direct and considerable successes were reached, Ms. Kotek noticed that the republic seriously approaches to the obligations taken before the Organization, and reforms carried out
in the country in the frame of these the obligation, first of all, aim on development and well-being. Estimating activity of Azerbaijan in this direction, she said that СOЕ is interested in the further deepening of cooperation with the country and in this connection implementation of various joint programs will be useful.
The COE special representative noticed that in 2009 the Organization will carry out variety of joint projects with the government of Azerbaijan. It is fight against corruption, health services improvement in penitentiary system, carrying out of trainings for judges and other actions. Project execution will begin after the
coordination with the government of Azerbaijan.
