Over 100 People Protest Outside Russian Embassy In Solidarity With Aleppo Residents

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- More than 100 people gathered peacefully in front of the Russian Embassy in Jalan Ampang here two show solidarity for Muslims in Aleppo, Syria, who have come under heavy bombardment by Russian warplanes. Earlier, the protesters had marched two kilometres from Masjid Asy-Syakirin, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) up to the embassy. The rally organised by the Malaysian chapter of Hizbut-Tahrir lasted for two hours from 10am today. It proceeded peacefully without any disturbances with police keeping a watchful eye and controlling traffic. Hizbut-Tahrir Malaysia president, Abdul Hakim Othman, said the key message they wanted to convey was that the people of Malaysia also felt the suffering of the Muslims in Aleppo as result of the civil war in Syria. "We strongly oppose the atrocities committed against Muslims in Syria," he told reporters. Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the United Nations (UN) must take drastic action to tackle the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo. -- BERNAMA
