PM Najib Conveys Sympathies Over Berlin Attack

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Najib Razak has expressed his sympathies to those affected by the attack in Berlin, Germany. "Deepest sympathies to all those affected by the attack in Berlin. Appalling loss of innocent lives in what should be a time of celebration," the Prime Minister said in a post on his Twitter account Tuesday. Najib said the Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Frankfurt were providing updates on the incident to the Malaysian community there. The Foreign Ministry, in a statement earlier, said no Malaysians were affected in the incident in Berlin Monday when a truck ploughed through a Christmas market, leaving at least 12 people dead and about 50 injured. The incident occurred at about 8pm Monday (3am Tuesday in Malaysia) at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz Square near Kurfuerstendamm Avenue in the west of Berlin, the statement said.
