Ecotourism trade fair opened in Vangvieng

(KPL) The ecotourism trade fair was officially opened on 26 January in Vangvieng district, Vientiane province, aiming at promoting the integration of tourism between the central region and the northern and southern ones and further on with those of the neighbouring countries: Vietnam and Thailand.
The central provinces were Borikhamsay, Khammouane, Savannakhet, Vientiane and Vientiane capital.
“The ecotourism trade fair was an important event for promoting tourism in five central provinces and local people traveling in the country,” said Vientiane Governor Khammeun Phongthady. “In its efforts to boosts and attracts the foreign tourists to visit Laos and promotes handcrafts production, agriculture production”.
More than 125 booths from five provinces and neighboring provinces attended the event featuring tourism products include industries, handicrafts and agriculture.
The event was organized by Vientiane province-Vangvieng district in collaboration with the National Tourism Administration of Laos (NAT) that will run till 1 February.
The festivities also included art performances, the competition of local sports between players from the five provinces, and the contest of “Sweet Orange” beauties, among others.
On 30 January the festival will be opened with the parade of different art troupes of the host province. The performances will feature the Lao Khene (Lao musical instrument) dancing, the performance of Hmong Khene, rocket festival dancing, and the procession of beauties, among others.
During the festival, on 31 January, there will be tours to the orange plantations at Phahome village, and local organic mulberry plantations. Other activities will include tubing and kayaking, along the Song River.
Vangvieng, a district in Vientiane province, is known for adventure programmes, ranging from trekking, tubing, kayaking, to rock climbing. It is also blessed with numerous limestone mountains, caves and caverns. Visitors and tourists will also enjoy the natural scenery of Vangvieng.
Vangvieng is approximately 150 km north of the capital, nearly a three-hour drive.
