Seven Teams To Vie For 2016 AFF Futsal Championship Honours

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia would be among seven countries that will feature in the 2016 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship in Bangkok from Jan 23 to 29. AFF said the others are host and defending champion Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, Indonesia and Timor Leste. Thailand, which is vying for the 12th title in the championship, has been placed in Group A with Brunei and Timor Leste while Malaysia are drawn with Myanmar, Laos and Indonesia in Group B. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. Indonesia is making a return to the annual tournament after missing in 2015 due to a ban by FIFA following the interference from the Indonesian government in the country's domestic football league. The tournament is supposed to kick-off on Oct 3 but was postponed to January 2017 due to the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. --BERNAMA
