AZERBAIJANI NEWLY APPOINTED AMBASSADOR HANDS HIS CREDENTIALS TO GOVERNOR GENERAL OF JAMAICA

Jamaica, January 28 (AzerTAc). A new ambassador to Jamaica Agshin Mehdiyev presented Wednesday his credentials to Governor General of this country Kenneth O. Hall, according to Azerbaijan`s permanent mission in the United Nations.

Mehdiyev conveyed President Ilham Aliyev`s greetings to the Governor General. He
touched upon prospects for Azerbaijan-Jamaica relations. He said 20 percent of
Azerbaijani lands were occupied and million people were forced from their homes by
Armenian aggression. Ambassador noted Azerbaijan has grown into a leader in the
region, playing an important role in the transport projects.
Governor General wished every success to newly appointed ambassador and asked him to
pass on his greetings and best regards to President and people of Azerbaijan. He
expressed concern over the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and its
implications. According to him, there is room for cooperation between the two
states.
Later the same day, Mehdiyev met with Jamaica Minister for Foreign Affairs and
Foreign Trade Kenneth Baugh. During the meeting, the parties discussed the ways for
development of bilateral relations. In the light of the increased global demand in
energy resources, Jamaica is keen on deepening relations in energy field with
Azerbaijan, Baugh added.
