PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN CONSTITUTIONAL COURT ATTENDS WORLD CONFERENCE ON CONSTITUTIONAL JUSTICE IN CAPETOWN

Baku, January 28 (AzerTAc). President of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan Farhad Abdullayev and his accompanying delegation participated in the world conference on constitutional justice on the topic “Influential Constitutional Justice - its influence on society and on developing a global jurisprudence on human rights” organized by the Constitutional Court of South Africa and the CoE Venice
Commission on January 22-24.

The conference looked into the important issue of how constitutional courts and
Supreme Courts shape law, which in turn shapes society. The participants had the
opportunity of sharing experiences of the different judicial systems and
jurisprudence within the regions and with other regions on a global scale.
Speaking to the conference, President of the South Africa Kgalema Motlanthe called
constitutional institutions for cooperation. He expressed confidence that the
cooperation among judicial bodies will contribute to interstate relations.
Declaration adopted by the conference said that constitutional justice is a key
element in fostering and deepening the basic values enshrined in the Constitutions
that form the basis of the work of the Courts and Councils which participated in the
World Conference. The presentations and discussions at the World Conference showed a
common concern for the defence of human rights and the rule of law, both on a
regional and a global level. Mutual inspiration is also increasingly drawn from the
case-law of peer Courts of other countries and even other continents, which gives
rise to cross-fertilization between the Courts on a worldwide scale. Consequently,
the exchange of information and experience between the Courts and Councils should be
reinforced on a regional and global basis.
