KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The South-East Asia – Middle East – Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5) consortium today announced that the construction of the 20,000-km submarine cable infrastructure has been completed. Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) Global Wholesale Executive Vice President, Mohammad Rozaimy Abdul Rahman, said the cable system, which has already started to carry traffic, was expected to meet the quadrupling of bandwidth demand in 18 countries from South-East Asia to Western Europe. "This project is expected to be able to fulfil TM's future business needs and boost growth in international bandwidth, Internet Protocol (IP) Transit, IP Virtual Private Networks, interconnection and backhaul services," he said in a statement Friday. Meanwhile, SEA-ME-WE 5 Consortium Management Committee Chairperson, Linette Lee, said the system would facilitate a New Age of digital transformation and innovation, catalysing greater economic activities, trade and growth across three continents. -- BERNAMA
