Non Muslims Urged To Join In Fight For Rohingyas
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- Non-Muslims in the country are urged to come forward and join the fight for the fate of the Rohingyas who are being oppressed in Myanmar.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the issue of violence was a crime against humanity and should not be viewed from a religious angle.
"Support for humanitarian aid is not only for the Rohingya community. In fact the government also provides aid to other communities that are in conflict or being oppressed," he told reporters during the "Doa Untukmu Rohingya" programme at Istana Budaya Sunday.
Ismail Sabri also commended Journalists Association and Malaysian Entertainment Writers (Persatuan Wartawan dan Penulis Hiburan Malaysia or WHAM) for organising the event which he said showed concern of Malaysian artistes for the Rohingyas.
He said this proved that artistes could also participate in government programmes when assisting the Muslim ethnic minority in their own way.
