S. Korean filmmaker's 'Treeless Mountain' to hit U.S. cinemas
SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) -- "Treeless Mountain," an internationally well-received
movie by South Korean director Kim So-young, is set for a spring release in the
United States, reports said Thursday.
The film has been picked up by New York-based distributor Oscilloscope
Laboratories, which plans a theatrical release in New York in April, followed by
national distribution and a DVD release in the summer, U.S. media outlets
including the Hollywood Reporter said.
A follow-up to Kim's "In Between Days," which earned a Special Jury Prize at
Sundance in 2006, "Treeless Mountain" is about two orphaned sisters in Seoul
trying to adapt to drastic changes in their lives. It stars Kim Hee-yeon and Kim
Song-hee, aged seven and five, respectively.
The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and has
also been invited to the Forum Section of this year's Berlin Film Festival.
