Malaysia's DPM To Make Six-Day Working Visit To China From Jan 10

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will undertake a six-day working visit to China from tomorrow. According to the statement issued by Wisma Putra today, the visit, which will be Ahmad Zahid's second working visit to China since assuming office in July 2015, is at the invitation of the Chinese State Counselor and Minister of Public Security, Guo Shengkun. "This working visit will focus on further strengthening bilateral relations on matters related to security, counter-terrorism, transnational crimes, as well as police and prison affairs," the statement said. During the visit, Ahmad Zahid, who will be accompanied by his wife, Hamidah Khamis, and senior government officials from the relevant ministries, is scheduled to visit Beijing and Kunming. In Beijing, the deputy prime minister is expected to call on Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and to hold a meeting with Shengkun and the Secretary of Central political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China, Meng Jiangzhu. Shengkun and Jianzhu will also host a luncheon in honour of Ahmad Zahid and the Malaysian delegation on Jan 11, the statement said. In Kunming, Ahmad Zahid is scheduled to meet with the senior officials of Yunnan provincial government. For the record, the total trade between Malaysia and China for the period of January to October 2016 has increased by 1.2 per cent to US$46.81 billion (RM191.65 billion) compared to the same period in 2015. -- BERNAMA
