Samsung Heavy reports 35 pct gain in 2008 earnings
SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Heavy Industries Co., the world's
second-largest shipbuilder, said Thursday its net profit rose 35 percent last year thanks largely to higher vessels prices.
Its net profit reached 656 billion won (US$476 million) last year, compared with
485 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Sales increased 25 percent to 10.67 trillion won over the cited period, and
operating income gained 89 percent to 755 billion won.
Shares of Samsung Heavy closed at 26,900 won on the Seoul bourse, down 1.1 percent.
