ESSCom Arrests Foreigner Attempting To Smuggle Petrol

LAHAD DATU (Sabah, Malaysia) Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) arrested a Filipino man after he attempted to smuggle 25 drums suspected to be petrol in the waters off Pulau Omadal in Semporna on Wednesday. Its commander DCP Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the 55-year-old man from the Tawi-Tawi archipelago was arrested by the Semporna police marine during a patrol at about 7.40 pm. In a statement here Friday, he said the suspect and the seized items, including a boat, were brought to the Semporna police marine base for further action. He said the case would be investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 and would be referred to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. Members of the public, who witnessed any suspicious activities or violate the law of the country, are advised to report to the ESSCom Operation Centre at line 089-863181 for further action, he said. --BERNAMA
