Indonesian Detained For Attempt To Smuggle Out Diesel

TAWAU (Sabah, Malaysia) Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency here nabbed an Indonesian man and seized a boat that was used in an attempt to smuggle out 14 drums of diesel oil, off Melayu river Saturday. Its Tawau deputy director (Operations), maritime commander Romli Mustafa said in a statement Saturday that the suspect believed to be the boat skipper, aged 30, was detained at 10.45am. He said a patrolling MMEA intercepted the vessel, which was heading to Nyamuk river, Indonesia from Jeti Batu 3 here. He said the boat and suspect were brought to the Tawau MMEA jetty for further investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Romli said the public could contact the Tawau MMEA operations centre at 089-750116 or Malaysian Emergency Response System Agency number, 999 to channel information on such illicit activities. -- BERNAMA
